Abbreviations 

There are just too many to list here and no list can be definitive.  Essentially if an abbreviation for something is used its fair game.

Foreign Words

Words to know the meaning of are 'the', 'and' and 'of' in a lot of European languages

Roman Numerals

Chemical Symbols

There are about 110 of these.  About 20 are commonly used.

A couple of tricky common ones are listed.

Carbon, Nitrogen and Oxygen are easy they are just the first letter of the word.
